Dangers around overhead power lines
Overhead power lines carry electricity, touching them or coming into contact with them can be very dangerous. You must not:
- Fly kites
- Put up tents
- Throw things or touch them in any way
- Sail or tow boats
- Use fishing rods
- Put up football or rugby goal posts
If you get something stuck in a Power line tell an adult you know straight away.

Power lines are dangerous. Stay away!
Aim
- Recognise why it is important to stay away from Power lines
- Start thinking about circuits and the idea of 'earth'
- Know what to do if they get an object stuck on a Power line
- Know what to do if someone touches a Power line.
- Warn others about the dangers of playing under Power lines
Suggested Activities
- Play 'Power Savers' game.
- Make posters in groups, warning others of the dangers of playing near Power lines.
