What is electricity for?
Electricity makes electrical items work. Things like kettles, irons, toasters, Playstations, MP3 players, stereos, computers, DVD players, TVs, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, microwaves and many other items all work because of electricity.
Theme
We use electricity everyday, even when we don't know it
Aim
- Recognise what uses electricity and what doesn't
- Recognise that whilst electricity can be dangerous, it is also
extremely useful
Suggested Activities
- Get the children to draw and label as many items as they can think of that use electricity.
- Read out a list of items, some that use electricity, some that don't. Get the children to call out "Yes" or "No" as to whether the item that is called out is electrical or not.
- Ask the children to see if they can get through a whole day without using anything electrical. Ask them to share their experiences afterwards.
