What is an electrical circuit?
To travel electricity needs to have a circuit for it to flow round. A simple circuit would be when you connect a battery and a light bulb together with two wires, the bulb lights up and you have made a complete circuit.
A more complex circuit has a switch that controls the electricity by stopping and starting the flow of electricity.
Theme
Where there is electricity there are always circuits.
Aim
- Understand what a complete circuit is
- Understand how to make a complete circuit
- Start to think about more complicated circuits, perhaps using a switch
- Be able to draw a simple circuit
Suggested Activities
- Play 'The Power Cycle' game on the PowerWise website
- Build a simple circuit with the children, talk them through it
- Download the circuit presentation (Power Point)
